Yiwol, a white Jindo, wasn’t a stray dog, but she never knew what a real home was in her previous life. She once lived with a family who beat her and rarely fed her. She suffered for a long time, but thankfully, the tenant who lived next door changed her life.
The kind woman refused to let the dog suffer any longer at the hands of her landlord. Therefore, she and her family decided to take Yiwol with them and moved out. And while they haven’t spent so much time together at that point, the dog felt completely comfortable having her around.
Since then, Yiwol has lived with her new adoptive family and everything went great. They ate breakfast in the morning, played in the afternoon, and relaxed at night after a long day. And while all else seemed fine, there was one thing that puzzled the entire family.
Often, Yiwol attacked herself and bit her hind legs. She did it like they were her enemies. No matter what she did, she had episodes of abruptly hurting herself.
Yiwol has always been a loving, obedient, gentle, and smart dog. She followed everything her mom told her. She followed her commands, but she never ceased attacking herself even when her mom repeatedly told her to stop.
Worried about Yiwol’s overall well-being, her mom contacted an animal behavior expert and asked for help. Together, they observed the dog and tried to determine the cause of her extreme anxiety. Eventually, they figured out the reason why Yiwol hurt herself.
The dog’s traumatic experience kept haunting her after so many years. Thankfully, aromatherapy helped ease her anxiety. She also underwent training and learned to use her sense of smell more than her sight. That way, she realized that things around her weren’t weapons that would cause her pain.
Yiwol worked hard and overcame her fears. Thanks to her mom who never gave up on her, she learned how to relax. Together, they made the decision to live happily together, forever.
