Aside from sticks, dogs have a penchant for carrying tennis balls in their mouth. We don’t really understand why that’s so, but there’s something about these neon green balls that they find attractive. The moment these balls are thrown in the air, they make a mad dash towards it. Then, once they get a hold of it, they do some sort of happy dance before bringing it back to us.
Dogs have huge slobbery smiles on their faces whenever we get them to play fetch with the tennis ball. It’s an activity they absolutely enjoy and look forward to doing with us every single day.
Sometimes, they would even bark at us to let us know it’s time to play.
Bringing it up a notch
Most dogs are used to carrying just one ball with their mouths. However, one Golden Retriever from Canandaigua, New York, decided to up the ante. His name is Finley, and he thinks carrying just one tennis ball in his mouth is not challenging at all.
According to his owner, he’s been obsessed with tennis balls ever since he was a puppy. As he got older, that obsession got a lot more intense. It reached a point where he would squeeze more than one ball in his mouth!
Breaking the record
Finley’s owner did a little research and found out that a dog has carried five balls in his mouth. That dog made it to the Guinness World Record, but Finely was not impressed. He figured he could easily beat that record.
The Golden Retriever set off to work and practiced shoving as many balls as possible into his mouth. By the time he was done training, he was able to squeeze in half a dozen tennis balls inside his mouth! He beat the official record and, after processing lots of paperwork, was declared as an official Guinness World Record holder!
