Carole King and her husband, Verne, went to Kalispell, Montana for a vacation. They brought along their seven-year-old dog Katie with them. One night, the couple decided to watch some stock car racing, and they left their border collie in their hotel room.
The two went home at almost midnight, and they were stunned to see that their room was empty. Somehow, their beloved pooch has gotten out. Carole and Verne started looking for the dog everywhere.
They spent hours scouring the area, calling out the dog’s name. They only stopped when the daylight was finally breaking. They got exhausted and needed to rest.
Although Kalispell is only a small town, with less than 25,000 residents, the area is surrounded by a sprawling wilderness. Finding the dog seemed near impossible. But the couple was relentless in their search.
They made flyers and distributed them around. The worried dog owners weren’t shy about knocking on anyone’s door to talk to them. They even started recruiting people to help them organize search parties. There wasn’t anything that they wouldn’t do to get their pet back.
As weeks went by, the couple’s resolve just kept on getting stronger. Carole then quit her job as a postal carrier so that she can devote her time in her search for Katie. She even installed trail cameras and purchased night-vision goggles so that she can search for her pet even at night.
Residents of the town were so impressed by the couple’s dedication and love for their dog. They were very moved by their actions and rooted for them. They also did what they could to help them.
They were constantly on the lookout for Katie and would report every sighting that they had. They spread the word about the lost dog as much as they can.
Eventually, while Carole and a friend were searching in the woods, a couple appointed out to them a border collie that they saw along the way. Sure enough, it was Katie. As soon as Carole shouted out the dog’s name, she bolted towards her owner. They cuddled each other for a long time.
After 57 days, they were finally reunited. The whole community was so happy that the dog was found and going home.
